Zone 2.5 is a high ridge located in the middle of the Purissima Hills Water District’s Zone 2 pressure zone and consists of mostly 6 and 8-inch AC and cast iron water mains. The elevations are such that this ridge can only be served by the higher pressure Zone 3 through a single aging pressure reducing valve. Pakpour Consulting Group designed this project to increase fire flows in the area, provide redundancy, and replace aging infrastructure. In addition, hydraulic modeling completed by Pakpour Consulting Group indicated that by increasing the size of the water main to 12-inch, the new infrastructure would serve as vital transmission facility to move water to the southern part of the District. The project consisted of installing a total of 15,500 linear feet of 6, 8, and 12-inch ductile iron pipe, 34 fire hydrants, and 116 service connections.
This project was jointly funded by Purissima Hills Water District and the Los Altos Hills County Fire District and was the largest single capital improvement project for both Districts. The Zone 2.5 Project was the first project in the San Francisco Bay Area to utilize horizontal directional drilling to install ductile iron pipe.
Serving as District Engineer for the District, Pakpour Consulting Group provided complete planning, design and construction management services for the Zone 2.5 Project.
