Foothill Community College, located on a sprawling campus next to Interstate 280 in the Town of Los Altos Hills, is the largest single account for the Purissima Hills Water District (District). The campus was served by the District’s low pressure Zone 2. In the summer of 2003, the college went through a large scale upgrade of their facilities, including oncampus water mains. The college approached the District to see if higher pressures were available.

Serving as District Engineer for the District, Pakpour Consulting Group conducted extensive hydraulic modeling of the area and worked with both the college and District to finalize the ultimate alignment of a Zone 3 high pressure water main through the college. A new 10-inch water main was installed through residential neighborhoods to bring high pressure Zone 3 water to the campus and loop the distribution system for increased system reliability and fire protection.

Pakpour Consulting Group prepared plans, specifications and cost estimate, and provided bid assistance and construction management services for the installation of approximately 3,600 linear feet of 8 and 10-inch ductile iron pipe. The project also required crossing an environmentally sensitive creek, triggering regulatory agency approvals. Project Engineers at Pakpour Consulting Group worked closely with the Santa Clara County Valley Water District to formulate a unique design for crossing Adobe Creek, which required minimal impact to the surrounding environment and right-of-way.
