Tasked with providing fire protection to the exclusive community of Los Altos Hills, the Los Altos Hills County Fire District (LAHCFD) and Purissima Hills Water District (PHWD) were formed by consolidating several municipal water and fire companies in the late 1950’s. As a result, there are many different types of fire hydrants throughout the District. The two Districts often finds themselves balancing the preservation of the Town’s rural atmosphere with the need to protect some of the most expensive residential houses in the Bay Area.
Serving as District Engineers for both the LAHCFD and PHWD , Pakpour Consulting Group systematically identified and designed projects to replace every fire hydrant (600 total) in their service area. The project consisted of 10 phases, with 50 to 75 fire hydrants in each phase. The LAHCFD also added fire hydrants to remedy deficiencies in coverage for firefighting purposes. Our design team conducted numerous stake holder meetings with each effected resident and coordinated all work with the contractor and PHWD. The design included mitigating and incorporating all stakeholder comments. Construction Management activities included daily inspections, change order negotiation, coordination with residents and all stakeholders of the project, preparation of daily, weekly and progress payment reports.
