Park and Industrial Bus Stop Project - City of Benicia, CA

The challenge facing the City of Benicia Transit Department was to design, advertise, and build a bus stop along with associated curb, gutter and sidewalk within 90 days at the second busiest intersection in the City. With its proximity to the on and off ramps of I-680, the intersection of Park Avenue and Industrial Way is an ideal location for a commuter bus stop to serve both the Benicia Breeze and the Fairfield-Suisun Transit. The construction of the project was further complicated with its location at an access point to I-680 used by the numerous multi-axial trucks in the area.
In the past ten years the staff at Pakpour Consulting Group completed over ten transportation and drainage projects for the City of Benicia. Once again, the City turned to our experienced staff to complete this high profile, time sensitive project. Pakpour Consulting Group early on identified constructability and impact on truck traffic as a major concern. Our design team worked hand in hand with our resident engineer during the design phase to produce a set of plans which had minimal impact on surrounding businesses and traffic along with reaching the goals of the project to construct two new bus pads.
Pakpour Consulting Group provided topographic surveying, civil design, and construction inspection services for the installation of two new bus stops. Improvements also included 395 linear feet of new sidewalk, curb and gutter, two disabled access ramps, pedestrian crosswalk striping and new traffic markings. The new bus pads were designed with high early-strength concrete to minimize disruptions to traffic. The new bus stops will provide employees within the industrial park an alternate means of transportation provided by the Benicia Breeze and the Fairfield-Suisun Transit.
