Pakpour Consulting Group Completes Design of the Canal West Pump Station Upgrades Project for the City of Antioch

PLEASANTON, CA, June 29, 2009Pakpour Consulting Group, Inc. (www.pcgengr.com) recently completed the design of the Canal West Pump Station Upgrades Project for the City of Antioch. Joubin Pakpour, P.E., president of Pakpour Consulting Group, made the announcement.

The City of Antioch, known as the “Gateway to the Delta” is located in eastern Contra Costa County at the convergence of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers. Antioch is one of the oldest towns in California, founded in 1850. The City currently serves over 100,000 customers within a 28.8 square mile area and on an annual basis provides approximately 6,350 million gallons of treated water to over 30,000 connections.

The City identified this project as one of its primary objectives to provide an uninterrupted source of power and to upgrade the pumping capacity to one of its existing canal pumping stations. The Canal West Pump Station was originally constructed in 1948 and is located on the south side of the Contra Costa Canal just west of Lone Tree Way. The station consisted of one 125 and one 200 horsepower (hp) pump delivering water to the Antioch Reservoir and the City’s water treatment plant. The City installed a third, 125 hp pump shortly thereafter. The pump station is the main source of raw water for the City. Pakpour Consulting Group in conjunction with its electrical and mechanical subconsultant, YEI Engineers, provided design services for the replacement of the 200 hp pump with a more efficient 300 hp pump and electrical upgrades allowing concurrent operation of all three pumps. The project also included construction of a new building to house the electrical equipment, installation of a permanent 450 kW emergency generator, an automatic transfer switch and SCADA. The new emergency generator will allow the City to operate the new 300 hp pump along with one (1) 125 hp pump.
